Know The Masters

Swami Sivananda
The earliest mention of Yoga as an approach to life and living are found in the ancient texts called the Vedas and the Upanishads, approximately dating to 1500 BCE.

The first collation of Yoga and it’s path and practices appear in Sage Patanjali’s YogaSutras, dating to around 200 BCE. Sage Patanjali, who is considered to be the founding father of the modern day yoga, makes tangible 8 essential pillars, called the 8 Limbs of Yoga, towards living a life in harmony and balance, like that of a Yogi. The more practice driven codification happened in India in the 20th Century by many great masters who studied and taught yoga in traditional ashrams.

Two prominent names from amongst these illustrious teachers of the 20th Century are Swami Sivananda and T Krishnamacharya. They took millions of physical, mental and breath practices along with the science behind them, and put them it into an everyday practice format. Between the two, they have left us with vast routines with both holistic approach and dynamic flows, making it easy for individuals living modern multi role- lives, to benefit out of this ancient universal science.
